Salon towels get destroyed by chemistry, not by use.
Everything about specifying them follows from that.
No towel resists hair colour. Permanent colour is a dye engineered to bond to keratin, and cotton is close enough chemically that it bonds there too.
Any supplier selling you a stain-resistant salon towel is selling you a story.
The same goes for peroxide and bleach: they will lift colour out of a dyed towel, and the only question is how evenly.
So, the specification is not about resisting chemistry. It is about choosing which way you lose.
HOW TO CHOOSE, BY ROOM
Colour and bleach stations — go white and bleach them with the rest of your whites.
A white towel with a stain can be recovered.
A coloured towel with a bleach spot cannot. White is the only honest answer in a colour room.
Wash stations and blow-dry — dark tones work well here, and water alone does not strip dye.
Ask for vat dyeing rather than reactive, because vat dye sits inside the fibre instead of bonded to its surface, so it fades slower under repeated hot washing.
It is not immune.
It is just slower.
Beauty and treatment rooms — oils and waxes are the problem, not dye.
Mid tones hide them better than white or black, and a hotter wash cycle matters more than the dye method.
WHAT WE BUILD
Salon towel, 40 x 75 cm, 400 to 450 GSM
Large salon towel, 50 x 90 cm, 450 to 500 GSM
Face and neck towel, 30 x 30 cm, 450 GSM
Combed ring spun yarn, double-stitched hems.
WHY COMBED YARN, AND WHY NOT ZERO TWIST
A salon towel is laundered every day it is used, which is three hundred plus washes a year — closer to gym linen than to hotel linen.
Combed ring spun removes the shortest fibres, so the towel stops shedding lint by its fifteenth wash or so, and lint on a freshly blow-dried client is a complaint you hear directly.
Skip zero twist entirely for salon use: it is the softest towel made and the shortest lived, which is the wrong trade for a daily rotation.
THE QUESTION TO ASK EVERY SUPPLIER
Is the quoted weight before washing or after? A towel shrinks a further 5 to 7 percent across its first three industrial washes, mostly in length, and on a 40 x 75 cm salon towel that is enough to notice when it no longer wraps a head properly.
We quote finished post-wash weight and put it in writing on the quotation.
ONE PRACTICAL NOTE ON QUANTITY
Work out your order from chair turns per day and wash cycles per week, not from chair count.
Most salons under-order on the first run and then have to re-order a dye lot that will not match the first one.
Tell us your throughput and we will size it with you before you commit.
