It is worth understanding before you order, because it is not a lighter version of a terry towel.
It is a different fabric doing a different job.
A waffle towel absorbs less than terry.
There is no pile, so there is less surface holding water, and a guest drying off after a bath will notice.
Anyone selling you waffle as an upgrade on terry is selling you the look, not the performance.
What it does better: it dries faster than terry at any weight, which is why spas use it on wet-area rails, and it packs flat, which matters when linen storage is the real constraint. It also stays tidy on a rail, because there is no pile to crush.

Below 220 GSM the cells collapse after a few industrial washes, and the fabric reads like a dishcloth.
Above 350 GSM you lose the quick-dry advantage you bought waffle for in the first place.
THE QUESTION TO ASK EVERY SUPPLIER
Is the quoted weight before washing or after? Waffle loses more in finishing than terry does and shrinks a further 5 to 7 percent over its first three industrial washes, mostly in length. We quote finished post-wash weight and state it in writing on the quotation.
ONE PRACTICAL NOTE
Waffle shows pressing marks. If your property irons flat linen, order a sample and wash and press it three times before you commit to the quantity.
