Bath Mats in Bulk — Cotton Terry Bath Mats from India

Kiran Global Exports is a cotton terry towel exporter from India, producing through a partner mill in Solapur, Maharashtra that has been weaving terry since 1972. The mill holds OEKO-TEX® Standard 100, GRS, ISO 9001, MADE IN GREEN and BSCI certification. Bath mats are the item most often added to a towel order at the last minute, with the least thought, and they are the item most likely to come back as a complaint. A bath mat is not a thick towel. It is a different product with a different failure mode, and if it is specified like a towel it will fail like one. A bath mat is a floor product, not a bath product Everything else in a towel programme dries hanging in air. A bath mat lies flat on a cold tiled floor, soaked, sometimes for hours, often under a closed bathroom door. That single difference drives the whole specification. Three things follow from it: Weight goes much higher. A bath towel is 400–650 GSM. A bath mat should be 900 to 1, 200 GSM. The weight is not for luxury — it is so the mat holds the water instead of pushing it out onto the floor when someone steps off it. Below 800 GSM you get a mat that squelches. Above 1, 300 GSM it will not dry overnight in a hotel laundry cycle, which creates the mildew problem below. Construction changes. Bath mats are usually double-sided terry on a reinforced ground or a cut-pile / velour face, not the same loop terry as a towel. The ground weave carries the weight; a standard towel ground at 1, 000 GSM will distort in the wash and the mat comes back out of square. Hems are wider. Bath mats are stepped on, dragged with a foot, and pulled off the floor wet. A narrow towel hem tears out. We specify a wider double-stitched hem on mats as standard. The mildew question — and the honest answer on rubber backing The single most common bath mat complaint from hotels is a smell. The mat is washed, tumbled, folded and stacked while the core is still damp, and by the time it reaches the room it is sour. This is almost always a drying-time problem, not a fabric problem, and the fix is specification, not a chemical finish: Keep the mat at 1, 000 GSM or below if the property has a fast laundry turnaround. Do not stack mats warm. They need to cool flat. Buy enough mats to rest them. A property running one mat per room and no float will always have damp mats in circulation. On rubber or latex backing — buyers ask for it constantly and we will give the same answer every time: a rubber-backed mat does not belong in a commercial laundry. The backing delaminates under hot sanitising washes and high tumble heat, usually within 40 to 60 cycles, and then the mat sheds rubber crumb into the dryer and the rest of the linen. Rubber backing is a retail and residential product, where the mat is washed cool and line-dried or tumbled gently. For hotels, spas and gyms, the correct answer is a heavy unbacked terry mat, and the slip risk is managed by weight, not by backing. We will quote backed mats for a retail programme; we will tell a hotel buyer not to order them. Sizes Market Size Metric GSM Typical use US standard 20“ × 30“ 50 × 76 cm 900–1, 000 Hotel room, standard US large 21“ × 34“ 53 × 86 cm 1, 000–1, 100 Suites, larger bathrooms Metric standard — 50 × 80 cm 900–1, 000 Europe, Gulf, Australia Metric large — 60 × 90 cm 1, 000–1, 200 Spa, villa, premium Runner / double 24“ × 60“ 60 × 150 cm 1, 000 Twin vanity, spa corridor US buyers speccing in pounds per dozen should note that bath mats sit far above the towel range — a 20“ × 30“ mat at 1, 000 GSM lands around 14 to 15 lb/dz, which surprises buyers who are used to reading lb/dz for bath towels. Send the size and the GSM and we will convert rather than guessing. Shrinkage — plan for it, do not be surprised by it Cotton terry shrinks, and a heavy mat shrinks more than a light towel. Expect 5 to 7 percent after the first three industrial washes, mostly in length. Two consequences: If a size matters to you — a mat that has to fit a specific alcove or sit inside a shower threshold — tell us the finished-after-wash size you need, and we will cut the greige accordingly. Ordering “50 × 80“ and receiving something that measures 47 × 75 after a month is not a defect; it is cotton behaving normally, and it is avoidable at the specification stage. Always wash a sample three times before approving a bulk size. We will send samples specifically for this; it costs a week and prevents a full container of mats that do not fit. Colour and matching Bath mats are usually ordered to match the towel programme, and this is where a second avoidable problem appears. A mat at 1, 000 GSM and a towel at 500 GSM dyed in the same bath to the same recipe will not read as the same white or the same grey, because the pile depth is different and the eye reads the shadow, not just the dye. If exact matching matters, say so at the quoting stage. We can dye the mat to a corrected recipe so it reads as the same shade next to the towel on the floor, rather than the
