Soft pink, lilac, sky blue, camel, grey.
These are the colours guest room and retail programmes actually sell, and the ones that fail fastest in the wrong place.
WHERE THEY WORK
Guest rooms, serviced apartments, villas, retail and gift programmes.
Anywhere the towel meets detergent and hot water but nothing harsher.
Reactive dyeing is correct for these — full colour range, sensible cost, holds well through normal laundering.
WHERE THEY DO NOT
Pool, beach, spa and salon areas, where chlorine, peroxide or bleach appear.
Mid-tones are the worst case. White can be bleached. Deep vat-dyed shades hold.
A pastel sits between the two — it will not survive chlorine, and it goes patchy rather than evenly, which reads as a defect rather than wear.
For wet areas, specify a deep shade in vat dyeing: navy, charcoal, deep teal, burgundy.
Vat dyes sit inside the fibre rather than on its surface.
They cost more and the range is narrower. There is no cheap colourfast option.
THE REORDER PROBLEM
Colour drifts between production runs.
Dye lots are matched to a standard, not to each other, so a towel bought two years apart sits slightly differently beside the first batch.
Keep a sealed reference piece from the first order and send it with every reorder.
Matching a physical sample beat matching a Pantone number, because cotton does not read the way a lab card does.
THE BORDER
The flat woven band at each end is a dobby border.
Not decoration — it stabilises the pile where the towel is gripped, folded and pulled most, so the towel holds its shape longer than a plain-hemmed one.
On colour, a tonal dobby reads as quality without adding a second shade to the programme.
Bath towel 70 x 140 cm, 500 to 600 GSM. Bath sheet 90 x 180 cm, 550 to 650 GSM. Hand towel 40 x 70 cm. Face cloth 30 x 30 cm.
Combed ring spun matters more on colour than on white, because lint shows from the first wash.
